Make the most of this beautiful season to discover the gardens in South Luberon.
Pertuis, this is where our tour of "towns in bloom" begins.
Val Joanis is a garden where flowers and vegetables combine fragrance and colour. Rising in three terraces an arbour of creeper roses connects them. The gardens have been classed "Remarkable Gardens" and elected "Garden of the Year 2008".
From Pertuis, the road heads towards Cavaillon as it follows the River Durance. The château de Lauris, perched on its cliff, overlooks the valley and the gardens are aligned in terraces, the Jardin conservatoire de plantes à couleurs (Conservatory Garden of Colourful Plants) you will find over 300 species from around the world. This astounding garden encourages you to consider the environment differently. (Opens in May)
Further north is the village of Lourmarin, listed among the "Most Beautiful Villages in France", and a few kilometres away the Ferme de Gerbaud (Gerbaud Farm) offers 25 hectares of aromatic and medicinal plants. You can discover the village in one and a half hours on foot.
Then, rendez-vous in Cucuron for the Garden of the Galon Mansion, that has been rewarded as "Jardin Remarquable" by the French Department for Culture for the quality and wealth of the species.
